What Happens in a Landfill

Follow this link for a list of household materials that are accepted at the Asquith Road Westside Residential Waste Disposal and Recycling Centre.  Material Disposal Information

Residential Waste is accepted for disposal Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday between 7:30am and 4:00 pm - gates close at 3:50pm (closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).

Household recyclables are accepted at the Recycling Centre - open 7 days a week 7:30am - 4:00 pm.

Other Recyclables

In addition to household recyclables, the Westside Residential Waste Disposal facility (located at Asquith Road of Shannon Lake Road in West Kelowna) and Glenmore Landfill collect and recycle the following items:

  • Ferrous Metals
    Acceptable: wrought iron, castings and steel

  • Nonferrous Metals
    Acceptable: lead, copper, brass and aluminum

  • White Goods (Maximum 2 per visit)
    Acceptable: refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers/dryers, air conditioners, hot water tanks, ranges and dishwashers

  • Tires and Rims (Maximum 5 per visit)
    Acceptable: passenger vehicles and light trucks only. Maximum inner diameter of 42 cm (16.5)

  • Propane Tanks (maximum 2 per visit)
    Acceptable: refillable or non-refillable propane tanks only

  • Lead Acid Batteries (Maximum 2 per visit)
    Acceptable: lead acid vehicle batteries only

Yard Waste Composting

The following materials are accepted from residential customers:

  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves
  • Other organic yard waste
  • Tree branches and brush less than 20 cm (8 inches) in diameter
  • Wood stumps and large branches greater than 20 cm in diameter are accepted at a fee

Yard and garden waste must be physically separated and clearly distinguishable from other material brought to the Westside Waste Disposal and Recycling Centre and the Glenmore Landfill (i.e. garbage and recyclables).
